Movement Medicine (LA Style)

With Madaline Riley

September 5, 2025

Suggested donation – $22.22 - $55.55

Madaline Riley is a dancer and visual artist using movement for both transformational and creative purposes. She will briefly introduce the various styles she has studied over her 20+ year practice, and then share how she uses these techniques and approaches to enhance freestyle-based movement, or compose choreography. We will also touch on ‘theatrics’ or creating character archetypes for dancing, and how this can be incorporated to create lasting moments that feel raw and personal to your own movement journey.

Madaline’s first visit to Rootstock back in 2019 left an impression on her.  She came for some quiet days in the Air Bnb (back when we did that!) and has followed Rootstock journey from afar for years.  We’re delighted to be welcoming her back for a Work Service Retreat this September and, while she’s here, thought it would be amazing to bring some Los Angeles culture to the Shire.

Madaline will take us into her work and world and will share more about the following styles of dance:  Popping, Animation, Krump, Butoh, Contemporary Dance, Physical Theatre, Bruk Up/’Flex’n’ (Nyc), Tutting, Contortion, Electro (France)

Come try something new and different, meet this magical muse, and move your dang body!  It will be fun!
