  Crows Nest (Full)

  The Crows Nest at Rootstock Retreat, in Vermont's beautiful and rural Northeast Kingdom, is a luscious getaway and cozy off-grid nest for folks wanting to experience tiny living in a magical setting. The space A comfy full-size mattress is provided and you will need to bring your own pillows, sheets, and blankets.  A dish towel, drinking water, a propane range, and some basic kitchen staples are provided, but we encourage guests to bring everything they need including a cooler if you plan to cook/store food. Guests will arrive to a (dark) warm space and, if desired, can make a small wood fire for ambiance. Wood and kindling are provided and we strongly encourage tiny fires in the tiny house. Turn the propane thermostat down if you make a fire since you'll likely need to crack a window. 4WD/AWD vehicles with good snow tires are the surest way to enjoy winter stays (December - April) as the hills are steep here and the snow can be wild. You should be prepared for limited or no cell and GPS service in this area Cancellation Policy: Cancellations vary depending on the program you booked with us.  Please check the cancellation policy connected to your event prior to booking.

  Rootstock House Rules:

  1. Check in time varies so check your confirmation email to ensure you know when to arrive.  Check-out is always 11:00 am. Early check-in and late check-out are subject to availability and must be arranged ahead of time.
  2. Bedding is not provided. Bring all the bedding you need to be comfortable.
  3. Parking is available for one car per booking, and guests staying in Sunrise/Sunset should park in the main cabin driveway at 1429 Beach Hill while folks staying in the Bunkhouse, Belly, Crows Nest, Robins Nest, LightHouse or Campsites should park in the lower lot across from 1510 Beach Hill.
  4. Guests should practice radical self-responsibility and take care to turn off lights, clean up dishes, dispose of trash/recycling/compost as directed and leave the space as nice or better than you found it.
  5. Please take care to close windows that you open in the event heat is running.
  6. Dwellings must remain and be left unlocked when guests check out.
  7. Smoking is not allowed inside any of the dwellings at Rootstock. Guests who wish to smoke are invited to do so only in the designated parking areas and must take any cigarette butts with them when they leave.
  8. Children are certainly welcome here at Rootstock.  Any persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of their stay.  No children should be left unattended here at any time and we ask that you guide your children to respect the dwelling, land, and quiet that this place generously offers.
  9. Rootstock is a dog-free campus.  Thanks for leaving your fur babies at home.

  Located in the main Community Cabin, and up a short-but-steep flight of stairs, Sunset Suite is the only private bedroom available for guests to book!   An incredibly inviting queen sized bed is tucked into the dormer ceiling space and it's decorated with lots of Beana's personal effects.  This private space has a door you can close, space for your belongings, and is the only booking at Rootstock that comes with a made bed (no bedding required!). This private room can comfortably hold 2 folks sharing the queen and is a perfect nest to rest on the hill.  The Sunrise Suite is across the landing from the Sunrise Suite, a dorm-style room that holds 3 folks, and the whole cabin is quite small and rustic so, although this is a private space, you're still likely to hear and be heard by other guests in the cabin.   Located in the Coat Mahal, an annex building connected to the yurt, this semi-private loft is up a very steep ladder.  This low-ceilinged nest is just that!  A full sized mattress tucked into a loft with a window looking over the beautiful view to the Northeast.   The Belly (the yurt) and the Coat Mahal is co-ed dormitory-style space with 2 semi-private lofts and the big room in the yurt.  A bit more private than the slumber party-style offering in the yurt, you'll potentially have somebody perched in the single loft across the way but folks bunking in the Belly will also be accessing the main space.  This booking is for the full sized semi-private loft.  You can expect and look forward to bunkmates in this space and should keep your belongings contained and come prepared to share the space.   Belly Dorm - (Twin)

  The Belly, Rootstock's beautiful 30' yurt, is our community space and Mushroom Temple and with 10 cozy daybed cushions lining the walls, this is a lovely space to bunk while you're on the hill. This shared space can comfortably hold up to 35 people but is limited to only 10 sleepers to ensure there is ample space to nest spaciously while you're here.  You'll need to bring your own bedding (twin sheets, blankets, pillow) and we'll make sure that the space is clean, warm/cool, and cozy. Amenities: Shared, indoor composting toilet, hot/cold water, no indoor plumbing, refrigerator Cancellation Policy: Cancellations vary depending on the program you booked with us.  Please check the cancellation policy connected to your event prior to booking.

  Rootstock House Rules:

  1. Check in time varies so check your confirmation email to ensure you know when to arrive.  Check-out is always 11:00 am. Early check-in and late check-out are subject to availability and must be arranged ahead of time.
  2. Bedding is not provided unless noted. Bring all the bedding you need to be comfortable.
  3. Parking is available for one car per booking, and guests staying in Sunrise/Sunset should park in the main cabin driveway at 1429 Beach Hill while folks staying in the Bunkhouse, Belly, Toad, or Campsites should park in the lower lot across from 1510 Beach Hill.
  4. Guests should practice radical self-responsibility and take care to turn off lights, clean up dishes, dispose of trash/recycling/compost as directed and leave the space as nice or better than you found it.
  5. Please take care to close windows that you open in the event heat is running.
  6. Dwellings must remain and be left unlocked when guests check out.
  7. Smoking is not allowed inside any of the dwellings at Rootstock. Guests who wish to smoke are invited to do so only in the designated parking areas and must take any cigarette butts with them when they leave.
  8. Children are certainly welcome here at Rootstock.  Any persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of their stay.  No children should be left unattended here at any time and we ask that you guide your children to respect the dwelling, land, and quiet that this place generously offers.
  9. Rootstock is a dog-free campus.  Thanks for leaving your fur babies at home.
  10. Rootstock is not responsible for lost or left belongings.  Guests should take care to gather all of their belongings when they depart as they will not be held, shipped, or tended on your behalf.  We can hold you but we cannot hold your stuff.
  11. Guests are asked to keep noise to a minimum throughout their stay so as not to interfere with the neighbors and wildlife here. Excessive noise anytime is not desired here but certainly after 9:00 pm is prohibited to ensure a healthy, safe space for our neighbors.
  12. Report any damages and/or breakages in a reasonably timely manner. Damages must be paid by guests.
  13. Guests are welcome to walk, snowshoe and ski around Rootstock. No mountain bikes or motorized vehicles like snowmobiles are permitted. Guests should be respectful of other guests on the property and respect privacy and refrain from entering the Tipi or other dwellings without expressed permission or an invitation.  The pond across the street is not accessible and we ask that you respect our neighbors privacy and boundaries.

  Robin's Nest (Queen)

  The Tiny House at Rootstock Retreat, in Vermont's beautiful and rural Northeast Kingdom, is a luscious getaway and cozy off-grid nest for folks wanting to experience tiny living in a magical setting. The space This little house offers up BIG comfort with a well-appointed kitchen space, beautiful furnishings, a propane heater and wood stove to keep things toasty, a writing nook or workspace and a cozy queen-sized mattress in the loft. Limited edition artwork, books, tarot cards, puzzles, and a travel chess/checkers set will give you plenty to explore and the land that the house sits on is also a wonderland. Off-grid means the space has no running water or electricity but you'll have 6 gallons of fresh, potable water to use with a cool, foot-pump sink and fully charged USB lighting to see by. There is a 2-burner propane range as well as some basic condiments and cooking implements for your pleasure. There's no refrigeration so pack a cooler to leave on the stoop. A shared outhouse is about 300' away and we encourage folks to rewind a bit and feel welcome to pee in the forest :) Guests will arrive to a (dark) warm space and, if desired, can make a small wood fire for ambiance. Wood and kindling are provided and we strongly encourage tiny fires in the tiny house. Turn the propane thermostat down if you make a fire since you'll likely need to crack a window. A comfy queen-size mattress and pillows are provided. Guests are required to bring their own bedding, pillows, and/or sleeping bags. Please note that the mattress is located in a sleeping loft with low ceiling clearance and is accessed by a short, steep set of stairs. A dish towel is provided, but guests will need to bring any other towels they may need. 4WD/AWD vehicles with good snow tires are the surest way to enjoy winter stays (December - April) as the hills are steep here and the snow can be wild. You should be prepared for limited or no cell and GPS service in this area.
